The Umóⁿhoⁿ Tribe is asking the community for their assistance in preserving our trees. The long-standing cottonwood tree in the park area alongside the prevention center was trimmed. We ask that park patrons do not climb on the debris.
We are also asking that youth tribal members do not climb on the trees planted last year in the community. The tree planting project is an initiative to replace dilapidated trees on the reservation. The Omaha Tribe planted a variety of 400 juvenile trees last year, which need time to sprout new healthy branches.
Please be mindful that we are making progress to improve the reservation’s sustainability with these small steps. The new branches are damaged, which will prevent the trees from growing properly.
However, we do need the assistance of the community to maintain our efforts to bring them to fruition. Wíbthahaⁿ.
